I was happy to get out of Wellington for a week and head down to Queenstown for my 21st. good bye stress, damp flat and wind AND HELLO home cooked meals, underfloor heating and yard glass! I shot a roll of colour that I know had killer shots on but unfortunately because film is risky the roll didn't develop so those memories will have to stay my own.
Last week the Massey Surf Club embarked on their second surf trip of the year. This time we drove 7 hours north to Mahia where we stayed in the perfect beach shack overlooking the local surf break and island known as Happy Jacks. Even in mid winter this place is ten times warmer than Wellington, no hoods or booties required. We managed to get two surfs at Blacks beach where there is a small reef break that attracts even the smallest amount of swell. Thanks to MAWSA our next adventure will have two new long boards to play with and maybe an experimental short board!
Juanette De Imhoof passed away on June 6, 2014 after a long struggle with dementia.
After going through all of her old possessions my dad and uncle found photos dating back to 1935. Being her grandson I only have memories of her from the age of 60 onwards. Seeing these make you appreciate photography and how it can retain the life of such an amazing lady. Here is a series from my Documentary Photography paper. I was allowed to follow alongside the Newtown firefighters and managed to catch a proper fire near Lambton Quay, where an air compressor had caught fire on the 6th floor of a car park. As a photographer the chances of getting any interesting shots are next to nothing. Its probably not right to say I was lucky but it was a good experience and my it boosted my confidence in the Wellington Fire Service.
Thanks to Midge Goodhue and every one involved. |
