Back in the beginning of second year Industrial design we designed these lamps as part of our first project. The brief was to design a lamp using one sheet of polypropylene and make a lamp that uses tabs and folds to fit together instead of fasteners and adhesives.
I was interested in luminescence in particular in the ocean so I came up with this Kina (sea urchin) design that highlights the tabs and overlapping areas. I was interested in creating a lamp that could be mass produced so each piece of the lamp can easily be cut or stamped out and easily assembled by hand.
